{"id":171,"date":"2020-07-01T19:28:39","date_gmt":"2020-07-01T19:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/potatosquad.org\/?p=171"},"modified":"2021-01-07T18:59:41","modified_gmt":"2021-01-07T18:59:41","slug":"july-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/potatosquad.org\/index.php\/2020\/07\/01\/july-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"July 2020: Reducing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The next three months we will be focusing on the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re in order of importance, because if you reduce the number of things you buy\/consume, you won\u2019t have to worry about needing to throw as much stuff away, and you\u2019ll be taking one more step toward a better world because if you lead by example others will eventually follow! Then secondly, reuse \u2014 keep reusing the things you already own or things you have borrowed from friends and also what you got from thrifting! Lastly, recycling is a last resort in case you can\u2019t reduce your consumption of something; contrary to what a lot of people think, recycling is very energy-intensive, so it is always best to keep recycling as a last resort besides trash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some things to do for the July challenge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cut back on disposable items: Plastic cutlery, plastic bags, produce bags, straws, tissues, and paper towels by either bringing your own reusable ones or not using them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Cutlery: wash plastic ones or use steel or wooden \u2014 try carrying compact ones with you at all times of your existence \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Plates and bowls: use reusable ones \u2014 ceramic, glass, or steel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Shopping bags: reuse paper ones, buy cloth\/plastic ones, and if you have any plastic ones use them as trash bags<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Produce bags: buy mesh bags or reuse plastic ones<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Straws: wash plastic ones or use reusable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Tissues, paper towel, etc.: use cloth or reusable alternatives<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022Plastic water bottles: use a reusable one that you already own or you could ask for one from a friend who isn\u2019t using theirs!
