Hello! Welcome to Potato Squad!*
Happy New Year and new decade! Now that 2020 has begun, we’re starting this project for real — doing what we can as normal human beings in the world to save our planet. Each one of us can make a huge impact; together, we can change the world.
Our mission is to inspire each human being to make a positive impact on our planet and our world. We believe that we should respect the Earth for all it has given us, and saving the planet is necessary for the survival of our posterity and a way to show respect for our world. IT IS A MORAL IMPERATIVE THAT WE DO NOT DESTROY THE SOURCE OF OUR LIFE. The Earth has given us our life, and it is up to us to honor its gift. But our planet is in danger, it is hurting, it needs help, and our activities are exacerbating this cataclysm. We have to stop this, to fix this, to change, and as Potatoes, we will do whatever it takes to make things right.
Overwhelming, right? Feels like we need to develop superpowers to achieve this? I know, it seems impossible. But each of us has way more power than we believe, and if we start small and work together, we can do this.
“I’ve often said it seems we’re attempting to drain the ocean with a leaking spoon. But even if that’s the case, we can either give up, or we can continue taking it one dripping spoonful at a time.”
— Shannon Messenger, Lodestar
To start, we’re going to have monthly goals and challenges to help improve our habits and be more eco-friendly in how we live.** As time progresses, we’ll put together projects and spread our influence. We’re delighted to have you join us!
We will meet monthly at the Ann Arbor District Libraries, and send out a newsletter at the beginning of each month with the meeting’s time and location as well as the month’s challenges. You can contact us through the form on our website or email potatosquad586@gmail.com. Feel free to tell your friends about this movement and follow our Instagram at @potatosquadearth to promote eco-friendly habits. We can’t wait to meet you at our first meeting! (More info will be in the newsletter, coming soon.) Again, thank you so much for being a part of this mission! Your support is invaluable.
Happy New Year!
*Potatoes are our mascot because they represent life on Earth, and also are awesome, as we aspire to be.
**Going zero-waste doesn’t have to be expensive and annoying — reducing ecologically unhealthy habits can save money and improve your health!
